ABOUT PISA

What is Pisa?

The International Student Evaluation Program is a study conducted to produce comparable data on education policy and outcomes. The Pisa test is conducted every three years and the next test will be held in 2021. It was started by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
It conducts a test evaluating 15-year-old children in member and non-member countries to assess the quality and inclusivity of school systems in these countries.. This is a competency-based assessment.. In 2021, PISA program students from government schools in Chandigarh will represent India.. The main objective of this test is to make a comprehensive analysis of how the education system is functioning in the context of preparing students for higher education and later employment.

India and Pisa

India participated in Pisa 2009. Students from Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu took the exam, India ranked 72nd out of 73 countries. The then government blamed “out of context” questions for poor performance in 2009 and decided not to participate in the 2012 and 2015 cycles.. In January 2019, an agreement was signed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and OECD regarding India’s participation in the Pisa 2021 trial. The OECD has agreed with reference to questions for Indian students. Schools run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) and schools in UT Chandigarh will participate. The Minister of Human Resource Development said that learning through participation in Pisa will help in improving the merit-based examination in the school system and by rote learning.
